Google Earth Safari Scavenger Hunt
In Google Earth you can turn on a special view that places the Latitude and Longitude lines right over the earth, so you can find the coordinates for any place on earth. (You could make your own treasure hunt!). To do this, go to View in the top menu bar, click on "Grid". If you want to turn off the lines, just go to View again and click on Grid again.
There are close up pictures of animals all over the continent of Africa in Google earth. To find the animals, cut and paste the coordinates into the "fly to" box and zoom in to get a good view. Then, write down the kind of animal you see on your worksheet and place a “tack “on Google earth. If you are unsure what the name of the animal is, just describe it in the “name” box.
Example: Water Buffalo (Or large animal, four legs, brown fur, horns)
Coordinates: Animal:
1. 04 17 21 S 31 23 46 E _____________________________
2. 15 17 40 N 20 28 47 E _____________________________
3. 10 54 13 N 19 56 06 E _____________________________
4. 21 50 36 S 35 27 00 E _____________________________
5. 13 42 06 S 31 08 28 E _____________________________
6. 18 26 45 S 12 00 44 E _____________________________
7. 15 50 19 S 27 11 50 E _____________________________
8. 29 46 15 S 21 00 31 E _____________________________
9. 15 16 13 N 02 28 29 W _____________________________
10. 39 37 25 N, 107 38 07 W _____________________________
(This one is just for fun!)
